SEVEN STRATEGIES FOR FINDING CHEAP OR FREE THERAPY

#2

Government Funded Programs & Assistance

If going through insurance or getting access through your employer aren’t options then theres a good chance that using government funded programs will be the way to go. If you qualify for any government assistance its a worthwhile project to see if you can use that assistance to help you afford therapy, let’s take a little deeper look into it.

Federally Qualified Health Centers

The Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA) uses federal funds to provide health services to the public. They provide a wide range of services from general medical services, to fighting the opioid crisis, and they also provide some mental health services. These Federally Qualified Health Centers have to maintain stringent standards to keep receiving federal funding so you know you’ll be receiving adequate care. On the HRSA website you can search for a Health Center near you, click here to use it.

Medicaid & Medicare

Medicaid is a Federal and State program that helps with covering certain medical costs for those that qualify. One of the costs that Medicaid can help with is…THERAPY! To see if you qualify for Medicaid and get more information on it click here. Medicare is a national health insurance program that primarily covers people 65 and older but others can sometimes be eligible too. Both of these services can be used to offset the costs of therapy, and to make it all a little easier you can even search on Psychology Today for therapists that specifically take Medicaid or Medicare.
